Mining and refining is the process through which usable Alpha Matter is created. Planets contain Alpha Ore, which in its raw state is unstable and unusable. This ore must be mined and refined into Alpha Matter, the substance that drives galactic development. Players mine and refine Alpha Matter by building Alpha Bases on planets that contain raw Alpha Ore.

Mining
- Each player begins by selecting a planet to mine for Alpha Ore.
- Each planet has a known amount of Alpha Ore.
- Mining a planet uses hashing power.
- The amount of Alpha Ore is the number of hashes that have to be found.
- Mining requires having a Mining Rig struct.
- If your Mining Rig is destroyed, your current mining progress is paused until you rebuild your Mining Rig.
- Mined Alpha Ore is not stored in any particular structure but rather automagically just as a number with the planet.
- Once a planet is completed, players get to choose a new planet to mine out of 3 new random planets.
Refining
- Alpha Ore must be refined before it becomes usable Alpha Matter.
- Refining Alpha Ore requires more time than mining it. That means ore gets backed up on the planet, making it vulnerable to attack.
- Refining Alpha Ore uses hashing power.
- Refining requires having an Ore Refinery struct.
- If your Ore Refinery is destroyed, your current refining progress is paused until your Ore Refinery is rebuilt.
- You can refine multiple units of Alpha Ores at the same time.
