There is an extremely unique characteristic with the concept of an ephemeral asset, Energy, all shared across all Structs connected to the same power source. This has been hinted at throughout, but deserves its own specific mention as well - it is far more easily shared than classic cryptocurrency assets. This includes the technical concept as to how it is accessed, authorized, partition, etc, but more importantly, we believe it is far more easy to emotionally share as well.

Challenges with Standard Tokens in Gaming

The idea of using a standard token as an in-game resource brought to light several key challenges, particularly in terms of sharing and player behavior:

These challenges highlighted that incorporating a standard token in gameplay complicates the dynamics between players and guilds, both technically and emotionally. The essence of fluid and collaborative gameplay in a shared environment was hindered by the introduction of a regular token, illustrating the need for a more integrated and player-friendly approach to in-game assets.

Ephemeral Energy

In the Structs economy, where Energy is generated and used within the same block (a.k.a. a game ‘tic’ of time), the assets are more easily shared in practically limitless configurations, and from an emotional perspective players will be encouraged to use up as much Energy as possible at all times - looking for ways to use it to better themselves and their faction.

Unlike many blockchain games which ultimately require the player to destroy value to progress (either as a gamble or a cost), the Structs economy is designed to encourage gameplay, enterprise, and coordination.

Team Coordination

Since energy sources are shared amongst players, and it is lost if not used, players are encouraged to play as much as their sources allow for - taking as many in-game actions as they can rather than being frugal with their resources. This means that players are far more likely to engage in battles, come to the rescue of teammates in distress, and initiate risky battles with high rewards.

Defence Contractors

With the game running 24/7, it’s going to be tough for players to dedicate enough time to stay productive and safe. The alternatives, such as match making and asynchronous gameplay, don’t make a lot of sense in an always on distributed system.

Shared resources, combined with a flexible permission system, gives those with the technical and enterprise spirit the capability to operate monitoring systems with reactions ranging from basic alerts to counteractions and even proactive behaviour.

Either human controlled or AI operated, the flexibility of the Energy resource allows for it to be easily consumed regardless of the initiating actor.

Transaction Fees

Players will never need to worry about the costs of transactions preventing them from taking the right action at the right time. They won’t be concerned about transaction costs while protecting themselves. The won’t need to leap out of their immersed battle to decide if an attack is financially sound.

Transaction fees will pull from the players connected Power Source. The mechanism will still effectively limit spam, but otherwise will be irrelevant to user decision making.

This also allows Structs to meet one of its core requirements, no token is needed to play.
